Plugin migration from MT3 to MT6

This post describes the list of plugins I had in my Movable Type 3 installation, and why I chose to include them in the Movable Type 6 installation by copying them to the /plugins subdirectory of my Movable Type 6 installation, or not include them, before I performed the actual upgrade to Movable Type 6.

Plugins not copied from the MT3 installation to the MT6 installation:

  • BigPAPI

Functionality provided by this plugin was made obsolete by the addition of transformer callbacks to Movable Type.

  • Compare v1.1

Functionality provided by the Compare plugin was made obsolete by improvements in the mt:If (and mt:Unless) template tags in Movable Type 4 and beyond.

  • DirifyPlus v1.5

Functionality provided by the DirfyPlus plugin was generally made obsolete by the 'dirify' and other global template tag modifiers added to Movable Type.

  • Feeds.App Lite v1.01

Version 1.22 of this plugin is included with Movable Type 6, so it did not need to be copied from the Movable Type 3 installation.

  • Google Search v1.0

This plugin shipped with Movable Type 3 but is now abandoned. It is no longer included with modern Movable Type distributions.

  • HTTP Status Code v1.0

This is a plugin that I wrote to prevent spammers from directly accessing the comment and trackback listing scripts and causing high server loads. I used this plugin to return a '403 Forbidden' error message. It can be used to return other HTTP error codes, but I did not use that functionality. Due to changes in the Movable Type 6 templates and code, I do not believe that I need this feature.

  • MTBlock v1.2

Functionality provided by the MTBlock plugin was made obsolete by the addition of the mt:Section template tag to Movable Type.

  • MultiBlog v1.1.0

Version 2.5 of this plugin is included with Movable Type 6, so it did not need to be copied from the Movable Type 3 installation.

  • Nofollow v2.01

Functionality provided by the Nofollow plugin was made obsolete by the inclusion of its features '(nofollow' global template tag modifier) into Movable Type 4.

  • SimpleComments v1.11

This plugin provided the ability to provide a combined listing of comments and trackbacks for entries. I did not copy this plugin from the Movable Type 3 installation to the Movable Type 6 installation because I no longer wanted this feature, in large part to the decision not to allow or use trackbacks in the Movable Type 6 installation.

  • SpamLookup v2.1

Version 2.3 of this plugin is included with Movable Type 6, so it did not need to be copied from the Movable Type 3 installation.

  • SQL v1.52

I used this plugin to publish comments posted on entries belonging to a single category by running a specialized SQL query to retrieve only those comments. This plugin was superseded by a more recent version (v2.0), so I did not copy this plugin from the Movable Type 3 installation. I installed the more recent version of the SQL plugin in the Movable Type 6 installation instead.

  • StyleCatcher v1.1

Version 2.6 of this plugin is included with Movable Type 6, so it did not need to be copied from the MT3 installation.

  • Template Backup and Refresh v1.1

General functionality provided by this plugin was made obsolete by the inclusion of its features in Movable Type 6.

  • UpdateAuthoredOn v1.01

This plugin is known to not be compatible with Movable Type 6. Functionality provided by this plugin can now be provided in Movable Type 6 by the Hot Date plugin.

  • Widget Manager v1.0

Version 1.1 of this plugin is included with Movable Type 6, so it did not need to be copied from the Movable Type 3 installation.

Plugins copied from the MT3 installation and installed in the MT6 installation:

  • EntryList v1.0

I used this plugin to provide specialized entry listings in Movable Type 3. The EntryList plugin is compatible with Movable Type 6, but it was doubtful that I needed its functionality. I included this plugin in the Movable Type 6 installation because I had some of the plugin's template tags in my templates and I did not want to have to remove them from the templates in Movable Type 6 in order to perform a successful rebuild.

  • RelativeURL v1.0

This plugin provides template tags and a global template tag modifier which allow the building of relative URLs.

  • ResolveURLs v1.0.2

This plugin provides a global template tag modifier to resolves relative URLs in weblog entries.
